Teacher Conference, 6-9 March 2023

Teachers and advisers are invited to join the Corpus Admissions Team at our 2023 Virtual Teacher Conference. The conference will consist of four CPD sessions split across 6-9 March. Each session will start at 4pm and will last about 45 minutes.

All teachers and advisers who registered for the conference by 9am on Monday 6 March should now have received an email from admissions@corpus.cam.ac.uk with Zoom details for the conference. If you have not received this then please first check your junk mail and then get in touch with us.

Teacher Conference Programme:

(All sessions will include a talk followed by time for Q&A)

Monday 6 March, 4pm:  'An introduction to Cambridge Admissions'

This session will be aimed at teachers and advisors who are new to the Cambridge admissions process. James Davies-Warner and Naomi Walker-Pearl will give an overview of how the process works, how we use data throughout the process and what we're looking for in UCAS references and personal statements. If you're an experienced Oxbridge advisor then you are still welcome to attend this session as a refresher, or you may wish to just join us for the other conference sessions.

Tuesday 7 March, 4pm: 'Making competitive applications: engaging with super-curricular resources’

In this session, Naomi and James will explore why super-curricular resources are so important and how they make up the backbone of a student's application.

Wednesday 8 March, 4pm: 'Deconstructing a Cambridge interview: Humanities'

One of our Law Directors of Studies will take teachers and advisors through a recording of a Cambridge Law interview and will provide a commentary on the interview.

Thursday 9 March, 4pm: 'Deconstructing a Cambridge interview: STEM'

Dr Sutherland, Admissions Tutor for Corpus Christi, will provide a commentary on a recorded Cambridge interview - this time in Engineering. Teachers and Advisors will gain insights into what an Admissions Tutor looks for in a strong Engineering interview performance.

There is no limit to how many teachers from any one school can attend and there is no requirement to attend all four sessions. Once you have registered your interest, you will be sent the details of how to access the sessions closer to the time of the conference.

I first came to Corpus because of an access event I attended here when I was in Year 9, my school was invited to Corpus to get a feel for Cambridge and university life. I had my heart finally set on Corpus once I attended an open day in Year 12 and got a detailed look at what medicine here was actually going to be like. The central location and the intimacy of the College community is great for meeting people and getting to grips with a daunting environment. The buildings are beautiful and the people are fantastically friendly.
