The Margaret Andrew Bursary
Corpus was founded by commitments from the Cambridge community. Margaret Andrew was amongst the first benefactors to dedicate themselves to the College’s mission. An undergraduate bursary, named in her honour and established through collective endeavour, would continue this essential tradition of philanthropy.
2024 marks 675 years since Margaret Andrew, knowing her death from plague was approaching, bequeathed her land in Chesterton to the new Gild of the Corpus Christi. This was the first of many benefactions, supplemented by several hundred others, that collectively ‘crowdfunded’ the foundation of the College in 1352.
Crowdfunding for an undergraduate bursary
Needs-based bursaries provide vital support for more than one quarter of Corpus undergraduates. The number of students in need of financial assistance continues to rise. We must be able to respond with the funds they need. We need your help to do so.
The Margaret Andrew Bursary appeal was launch during the 40th anniversary year of the admission of women undergraduates. We aim to endow in perpetuity an undergraduate bursary that will be of great help to future generations of women students.
The Bursary would be awarded to a female student in need of financial support, with a value of up to £3,500 a year. An endowment of £150,000 would provide a robust, permanent source of income for the Bursary. More than £85,000 had been donated as of June 2024. Thank you so much to everyone who has supported the appeal to date!
Will you help?
