Extracurricular activities at Corpus

While the focus of your life at Corpus will be on your academic studies, there is still time to get involved with extracurricular activities. The college has an exceptionally good range of facilities for students to pursue their interests outside of the lecture hall. College clubs and societies range from those related to a specific subject such as the Lewis Society for Corpus medics or the Pelican Poets and Writers Forum, to those with a political theme, such as the Feminist and BME discussion groups. If sitting back and relaxing with friends is more your thing, don't worry - there's always the popular Board Games Society. 

Sports

The College’s extensive sports ground are at our Leckhampton site, a 10-minute walk from central Cambridge. There you will find fantastic team sport facilities such as football and cricket pitches, grass and clay tennis courts, as well as the college’s gymnasium. In the gym building there are weight and exercise machines as well as a squash court. We also have an outdoor pool for the hardier students, which is available for use from May to September.

Corpus has college teams in all the major sports for both men and women.  Because of our small size, it is easy to get involved in sports at a college level, and we have produced many individual members who go on to play on the University’s ‘Blues’ teams.

One of the great sporting traditions in the college is the ‘Corpus challenge’, where we play our sister college in Oxford in sports and games ranging from rugby to FIFA world cup. We take turns hosting the event, and it offers a great chance for you to get involved in competitive (but not too competitive) sports.

Our active boat club has teams competing in Cambridge in the college ‘bumps’ rowing competitions, but also at events further afield such as the ‘Head of River’ race on the Thames. We have a boathouse on river Cam with opportunities for rowers from novice to expert to get involved.

Drama

Students interested in the performing arts can join a thriving music and drama scene at Corpus. We are the only Cambridge college to have our own standalone theatre, just off of King’s parade. The Corpus Playroom is an intimate studio venue in the heart of Cambridge, where well-known actors such as Stephen Fry learned their trade as undergraduates. The Playroom is managed by the University of Cambridge through the ADC Theatre and is Cambridge’s primary fringe space, showcasing a variety of productions, with an emphasis on new writing. The College drama society, the Fletcher Players, are the resident company.

Music

Music making, both classical and contemporary, is part of the fabric of Corpus. The College Chapel Choir performs services on Wednesdays and Sundays and is always on the lookout for new recruits both from offer holders and from newly-arrived undergraduates.  For those musicians who prefer less formal performances, the JCR holds regular open mic nights for students to showcase their talents. Classical and Jazz concerts are frequently held in the Chapel. Performers are drawn from within the College but also from outside, either within the University or professional musicians. The college has several practice rooms and every Music undergraduate has a piano in his or her room.
