Dr Mara Kalnins

Mara Kalnins has published widely in 19th and 20th century literature and her scholarly works include three volumes for the Cambridge University Press Edition of D.H. Lawrence as well as two collections of critical essays and an edition of his poetry. She was also General Editor for the Oxford University Press Edition of Joseph Conrad and has herself edited several volumes of his work. Her teaching and research interests include colonial and post-colonial literature, Modernism, travel writing and cultural history. Latvian by origin, she has written a cultural history of the Baltic, The Ancient Amber Routes: Travels from Riga to Byzantium and Latvia: A Short History.  She has recently completed a new selection of D.H. Lawrence's poetry and is currently preparing a volume of Latvian folksongs translated into English. Dr Kalnins has been awarded the Harry T. Moore Award for Lifetime Achievement in Lawrence Studies from the D. H. Lawrence Society of North America.
