Dr Alexis Joannides
MA PhD MB BChir FRCS(SN)
Alexis is an academic consultant neurosurgeon at the Department of Clinical Neurosciences based at Addenbrooke's Hospital, specialising in the treatment of brain tumours and disorders of intracranial dynamics.
His research interests include the use of complex healthcare datasets to understand epidemiology, identify clinical unmet need, and support long-term surveillance in neurological disorders. He is the clinical lead for the Reversible Dementia project (revertproject.org), which aims to improve the care of patients with normal pressure hydrocephalus through the development of new diagnostic tests, informatics infrastructure and standards of care. He is also Deputy Director of the Brain Injury MedTech co-operative (brainmic.nihr.ac.uk), supporting the development of new medical devices and healthcare technologies for improving the quality-of-life of patients following brain injury.
Alexis joined Corpus as a medical undergraduate, and undertook a PhD in stem cell biology as part of the MB/PhD Programme. He was appointed as a Praeceptor in 2007 and elected to a Fellowship in 2014. He is currently Director of Studies in Clinical Medicine, and supervises undergraduates in developmental biology, neurobiology and head and neck anatomy. He is also a founding member and Trustee of the Lewis Society of Medicine.
