Writing Family: A Reading and Workshop with Mary Jean Chan

The Pelican Poets and Writers have great pleasure in inviting all members of Corpus Christi College to an evening of "Writing Family: A Reading and Workshop with Mary Jean Chan", on Tuesday, May 14 at 8pm in the Parker Room. Drinks will be served in the Fellows' Garden from 7.30pm, weather permitting.

Mary Jean is the 2023-24 Judith E Wilson Poetry Fellow at the University of Cambridge. They will be reading poems from their award-winning and vivid collections written about family members, and discussing that rewarding but tricky process with us - a process often deeply moving for the writer and readers. In the second part of the evening, attendees will explore the idea further by writing a little about their own families, in a workshop led by Mary Jean.

Mary Jean Chan is the author of Flèche (Faber, 2019), which won the Costa Book Award for Poetry. Bright Fear (Faber, 2023), Chan's second book, was shortlisted for the 2023 Forward Prize for Best Collection, the 2024 Writers' Prize, and the 2024 Dylan Thomas Prize. They are also a recent judge for the 2023 Booker Prize.
