Meet the Presidents

Congratulations are in order for our two incoming student Presidents: Sophie Oldroyd, MCR President and Neve Baskar, JCR President. Fittingly, as we enter the 40th anniversary year of female students at Corpus, they are both women. We know they'll both be excellent representatives for their relative student cohorts at Leckhampton and Old House.

Sophie Oldroyd, MCR President

MCR President Sophie Oldroyd, last year's MCR Vice-President, is a PhD student in Sensor Technologies and Applications. She says, "Coming back to a sense of normality after the Pandemic means that we can focus on providing the community with social events, welfare support, and academic curiosity; just generally providing a sense of home away from home! I hope to work alongside the committee to cater to all within the community and ensure that there is something for everyone. Given that this year represents the 40th Anniversary of women in Corpus, I would love to be able to celebrate this milestone and the incredible achievements of our women Alumni and current students."

Sophie is pictured with her prize-winning poster at the recent Sensor CDT Conference.

JCR President Neve Baskar is a second year Law Student. Last year she was the International Student representative on the JCR, and was actively involved in helping the Admissions Team with outreach.

Neve says, "Last year, I had the privilege of working with some of our talented students in the JCR as International Students’ Officer. During this time, I had the opportunity to host Early Arrivals Week where students get a bit more time to understand how Cambridge works and settle down in another country! I was able to host swaps with international students from other colleges and ParTEAS with international snacks to keep away homesickness! I also had the opportunity to voice out student concerns at Welfare Meetings with senior members of the College and was able to springboard the Anonymous Racial Harassment Reporting Form.

This year, I decided to run for President of the JCR as I wanted to use this platform to focus on improving student welfare and widening participation at Corpus. I also want to be able to increase accessibility to information for both current and prospective students. It is truly remarkable how we, as students, can discuss with senior members of college to make concrete changes to better student life. Lastly, my favourite thing about Corpus is Heidi - our Schools Liaisons’ Officer’s beautiful and photogenic black Lab."

We look forward to both presidents' contributions to Corpus life in the upcoming year.
