Medical Graduates Society is "A great way to network and stay connected"

Medical students and alumni are encouraged to join the Cambridge Medical Graduates Society, a social and a professional network for medics who have studied at Cambridge. The Society was founded in 1883 and has grown into a vibrant alumni organisation. Its offerings include peer-to-peer mentoring, professional development workshops, networking and social events. The Society President is Dr John Chinegwundoh (Emmanuel, 1988) Consultant Respiratory Physician & Health Inequalities Trust Lead.

The Society holds an annual dinner at a Cambridge college, usually in July when the reception and AGM can be held outside, enlivened by music and featuring a guest speaker; Corpus first hosted the medics for their summer dinner in 1933, and has done so several times since, most recently in 2007. The current President of the Society is Dr John Chinegwundoh (Emmanuel College).

Alumnus Professor Gus Gazzard (m.1988), Director of Surgery and Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, encourages medics to join the Society, attend the events and engage. He says, "Doctors have had a tough time over the pandemic, so it’s been great that the Medical Alumni have come together with a programme of social and professional events. These events aim to help all doctors navigate the challenges in their careers and feel supported and inspired. The events are free and provide a great way to network and stay connected with College and the University."

The Society's next event takes place at The Medical Society in London on Wednesday 6 March at 18.30 and focuses on a challenge most of us face some time in our careers, 'Workplace Drama: Dealing with a toxic colleague'. After the panel discussion there will be opportunities for networking over drinks and a standing supper. The event is free and can be booked on Eventbrite.

More in-person events will be live streamed meaning  anyone, regardless of geography, can participate in the panel discussions and benefit. Future events are featured in the Society's newsletter.
