Christopher Isherwood: Resurrecting the Grave-Diggers' Book

-

Play-reading with Corpus’ Grave-Diggers Society was among Isherwood’s most formative experiences as a Cambridge undergraduate. The Grave-Diggers minutes book is on display, and our contemporary play-reading events join it to form a living part of the exhibition.

A group of current students will be joined by local amateur actors for a reading of two of the Jacobean plays that Isherwood read in Corpus a hundred years ago, followed by an open discussion of the tradition of play-reading and the significance it still holds today. John Webster's The White Devil (1612) will be read on Tuesday 14 May, and Shakespeare's Timon of Athens (c.1606) on Wednesday 15 May. We invite you to visit the exhibition while the readings are in process.
