Legal Framework

Founded in 1352, the College of Corpus Christi and the Blessed Virgin Mary in the University of Cambridge is the sixth oldest of the thirty-one colleges of Cambridge University.

The Foundation Licence of the College is available in English and Latin.

The College Statutes and Ordinances provide for the constitution and government of the College, including the membership and responsibilities of the Executive Body (EB) and Governing Body (GB); the duties and terms of appointment of the Master, President, Fellows and College Officers; the conduct, discipline, grievances and dismissal or removal of academic staff, the duties of College Members, the discipline of students; financial management and the annual auditing of accounts.

How the institution is organised

The College is administered by the Master and the Executive Body under the ultimate authority of the Governing Body, comprising the Master and Fellows of the College in accordance with the Statutes of the College and Ordinances, which are made by the EB or in a few cases, by the GB.  The Executive and Governing Bodies normally meet fortnightly during term time.  Rules relating to elections to the Executive Body and meetings of the Executive Body and Governing Body may be found in the Statutes and Ordinances of the College.  The principal officers of the College include the President, the Bursar, the Senior Tutor, the Dean and Tutors who are subject to the duties specified in the Statutes of the College. The educational work of the College is performed by the Directors of Studies and College Lecturers and Supervisors.  The Governing Body appoints various standing and ad hoc committees whose terms of reference and membership are available free on request from the Freedom of Information Officer at foi@corpus.cam.ac.uk.
