Professor Simon Godsill

MA PhD FIET FIEEE

Subjects: Engineering

Professor Simon Godsill arrived at Corpus as a research fellow in 1994 and became a College Lecturer in 1997, following his appointment as University Lecturer in Information Engineering. He was in 2006 appointed University Professor in Statistical Signal Processing. At the University Engineering department he heads a team of researchers within the signal processing group, with particular interests in the processing and analysis of digital speech, audio, tracking and financial data. He has published widely in academic journals, books and international conferences, and his first book, entitled Digital Audio Restoration (Berlin: Springer-Verlag 1998, with Prof. P.J.W. Rayner) is available to download from his personal website. This text reflects an on-going research interest in the computer enhancement of old sound recordings, including early 78s and cylinders, and he has been involved as a founding member with the world-leading audio remastering company CEDAR Audio Ltd since its founding in 1988. Since his early work in sound processing he has broadened his interests to include inference about probabilistic systems using Bayesian computational methods, and has worked with many different disciplines to improve analysis and inference about datasets. Interests outside work include singing, cricket, piano/organ playing and running.
