Dr Patrick Zutshi

Patrick Zutshi was until 2015 Keeper of Manuscripts and University Archives in Cambridge University Library. He is a member of the Commission Internationale de Diplomatique, and his principal research interests are the papacy in the later Middle Ages and medieval diplomatic. His books include Original papal letters in England, 1305-1415 (Vatican City, 1990) and (with Paul Binski) Western iIlluminated manuscripts: A catalogue of the collection in Cambridge University Library (Cambridge, 2005). He is the editor of The letters of Frederic William Maitland, vol. 2 (Selden Society, 1995) and (with Peter D. Clarke) of Supplications from England and Wales in the registers of the Apostolic Penitentiary, 3 vols (Canterbury and York Society, 2014-16). He is currently working on the court and administration of the Avignon popes and on the outbreak of the Great Schism of the western church (1378). He has published some sixty articles on medieval history in learned journals, conference proceedings and collective works. Twenty of these have been revised for reprinting in the volume The Avignon Popes and their Chancery: Collected Essays (2021).
