Kitchen Porters

Corpus Christi College has an opportunity for two full-time Kitchen Porters (37.5 hours per week) to provide a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene in the College kitchens.

The purpose of these roles is to ensure the overall cleanliness of the kitchen and surrounding areas and to maintain the highest standards of hygiene and safety.  Duties will include the thorough cleaning of kitchen pots, pans and cooking utensils. Loading the dishwasher with crockery and cutlery items, overseeing the operation of the machine and unloading and stacking items away. Clearing trolleys loaded with dirty plates, ensuring the cleanliness and tidiness of all food stores and fridges as well as all the waste bins. Emptying the waste food bins and disposal of all waste including kitchen rubbish, cardboard, waste paper and bottles.          

We are seeking applicants who are reliable, team players with an adaptable manner and a willingness to undertake training and looking to learn and develop within the role.  Ideally applicants will have a good understanding of current Food Safety and relevant Health and Safety legislation.   This role is vital in helping us deliver customer satisfaction whether it is the day-to-day collegiate catering or our high-end catering at College functions and our conference business.

Working hours are on a shift basis for 5 out of 7 days.  Previous relevant experience would be highly desirable as would be the ability to start immediately.

Chef de Partie

The College has an opportunity for a Chef de Partie to join our dedicated and passionate team, ensuring the highest standards are maintained in order for us to continue to surprise and delight our customers.

We expect the post holder to be a passionate chef that is looking to learn and develop within the role and team. A chef who enjoys cooking and creating fresh food of the highest quality for our food service to the Master, Fellows, students, staff and guests of the College.  It is important to us that the customer is just as satisfied with the day-to-day collegiate catering, as they would be with the high-end catering delivered at College functions and to our conference delegates. Events Manager

The College has a vacancy for an Events Manager. This post holder will be responsible for securing new business, managing existent client relationships and helping to grow successfully the residential and non-residential conference business.  

This is an exciting role within a small but busy college. The Conference & Accommodation department works with many stakeholders in the College to plan, manage and successfully run events to grow the conference business.  There is overlap with almost all areas within the College, which makes the role interesting and varied. Events vary from small, non-residential academic conferences, to large corporate dinners, weddings and assisting in the management of large, summer residential programmes.

The Events Manager will secure new business from enquiries and leads; work closely with clients to understand their event and communicate this effectively to the College’s catering teams. Opportunities are available to the successful applicant to expand on any marketing skills to increase the College’s conference and catering social media presence and to help manage the conference web page content. 

Applicants will have excellent verbal and written skills, excellent interpersonal skills, knowledge of the hospitality and/or conference industry, experience of event management and a high level administration and organisational skills.

Head Chef

Corpus Christi College requires a Head Chef who is looking for a challenging career move with this ‘hands on’ position in a college that has a strong reputation for its food.

The successful applicant must have a proven track record in leading a large team and the professional experience appropriate for the range of duties to be undertaken. The post holder will assist the Executive Head Chef in running and managing all areas of food production, ensuring that the highest standards of food service are achieved in an efficient and cost effective manner. With proven skills in procurement, leadership and the management and development of staff, the post holder will have responsibilities for the supervision, training and motivation of the kitchen team and for consistently delivering the highest standards. Ideally highly IT literate and proficient in MS Office and an experienced trainer, the College also requires a team leader who can be directive, is good at problem solving and has experience of change management.

We expect the post holder to be a highly skilled chef who will be the creative driving force behind the preparation and provision of the highest quality food service to the Master, Fellows, students, staff and guests of the College. It is important to us that the customer is just as satisfied with the day-to-day collegiate catering as they would be with the high-end catering delivered at College functions and to our conference delegates. Demonstrating flair and imagination, with a passion for fresh, local and seasonal produce, the post holder will be expected to incorporate this ethos into all areas of the catering service whilst driving down cost in order to meet budgetary targets.    

This is a full-time position working  37.5 hours per week working 5 days out of 7 Monday to Sunday on a rota basis in mostly straight shifts, with days and start times varying according to your shifts.

Book and Manuscript Conservator

Corpus Christi College is offering a full-time post for a Book and Manuscript Conservator with significant experience of book, paper and parchment conservation practice to join the small team working in the Cambridge Colleges’ Conservation Consortium studio based at the College. 

The studio has a busy schedule of work, carrying out interventive conservation treatments and providing advice on both library and archive materials for the fifteen members of the Cambridge Colleges’ Conservation Consortium.

The position provides the opportunity to work on a wide range of materials from the earliest manuscripts to modern archives, and to cover paper, parchment and binding conservation. Experience of historical binding structures and the ability to carry out a rolling programme of high quality conservation work is essential.

The successful applicant will have five years’ experience of book, paper and parchment conservation practice since qualification, a proven record of excellent practical skills and be looking to develop their professional experience. They will be dedicated and self-motivated, able to work both on their own and as part of a small team.  Excellent communication and report-writing skills as well as a diplomatic approach are essential. The postholder will have a degree or diploma, preferably with postgraduate conservation training or equivalent experience, as well as a passion for the subject.

Bar Staff x 2

9 Month Fixed Term Contract

Corpus Christi College is seeking bar staff to join their dedicated and passionate team.  Assisting the Buttery Manager and Deputy Bar Manager with the day to day running of the College bar you will be ensuring the highest standards are maintained in order to continue to surprise and delight our customers.  This is a fixed term role starting in September 2017 and working 1 x 34 hours a week and 1 x 36.5 hours a week on a 7 day rota.

The successful applicant must possess knowledge of current bar techniques and coffee shop trends and the professional experience appropriate for the range of duties to be undertaken. The post holder will work well in a team but must be able work alone, have good oral communication skills and be able to work under pressure.  Essential skills include great organisational ability, a proactive approach, efficiency, excellent attention to detail and someone who takes a great pride in their work.
