May Bumps are back!
The May Bumps begin tomorrow, Wednesday 18 June and the Corpus Christi Boat Club (CCCBC) is ready to race! And for the first time in a few years, Corpus is hosting a gathering by the river on Saturday to watch the final day of races. Please join us there.
If by some chance you aren't familiar with Bumps, they are a traditional set of rowing races that developed in the 1820s. Because the River Cam is too narrow for side-by-side racing, the boats have a staggered start and the goal is to catch up (bump) the boat(s) ahead of you whilst avoiding being caught by the boat behind.
This year, the Boat Club have four crews racing, with the women's second boat (W2) having earned a spot in the Getting On race on Friday 13 June. (Scroll down to see the team photos).
We'll post updates on our social media each day, but you can follow the races on the Cambridge University Boat Club website and listen to live coverage on CamFM.

Luke Pattison (m.2017), who coaches the women's teams said, "Mays are the pinnacle of the rowing year; all our crews have been working hard this term, balancing training with exams and deadlines. I’ve loved spending time with them out in the sun and am very excited to see what they can do when the start cannon goes off! W2 have already put in a heroic effort, triumphing in the Getting-On Race last Friday to secure their spot on the Bumps charts – they’ll lead the pack in the very first race this year, starting on chain 1 as the sandwich boat in the split division. Looking to continue the momentum from their successful Lents campaign, W1 are primed and raring to go, with their sights set on breaking into the top half of the Women’s second division."
