The Early Years

As we celebrate the 15-year anniversary of the Parker Library On the Web going live, we wanted to get a sense on how it was to work on a multi-year multi-team project between the Parker Library at Corpus Christi College, University of Cambridge and Stanford University Libraries that digitised over 550 medieval and Renaissance manuscripts. What went on behind the scenes in Cambridge?

The first iteration of Parker Library On the Web 1.0  launched in October 2009. The project was truly groundbreaking on multiple fronts. It was the first full-library manuscript digitisation project. The launch was a culmination of a large, multi-year collaborative effort with multiple teams of experts. Dr Suzanne Paul (now Keeper of Rare Books & Early Manuscripts at Cambridge University Library) worked on the project before its launch. She remembers the excitement and anticipation as manuscripts started to become available:
