Corpus men take blades in Lent Bumps

The Corpus M1 boat put in an outstanding performance in this year’s Lent Bumps competition to take blades after bumping (catching the boat ahead) on every day of the competition, a huge achievement for our squad.

Men's captain Owen Marlovits shares his match report below:

This Lent bumps saw an amazing result for M1, achieving blades, which records suggest we have not achieved since Mays of 2011, and not in Lents since 2006. This is a historic result that we could not have achieved without the sustained efforts of so many.

This victory was not just a victory on the water but also on land as the squad showed an excellent mentality throughout the races, constantly bringing their best every single day and trying to make every stroke better than the last. But bumps isn’t just won on the week of the competition, but months in advance as the crew had multiple 2k personal best scores in the lead up to bumps, something we were only able to achieve due to our 10 new ergs allowing for more effective land training.

We also have to give a massive thank you to our coach, Jack Hughes, who has been head coach for Corpus for over a year now, bringing up our men's side rowers from complete novices to blading, some of whom had noviced this academic year.

We also need to thank Fiona and Michal Gabrielczyk, who helped us to overcome some steering issues we had previously faced with our boat, allowing us to take better lines than our opponents and catch many of them on or shortly after corners.
