College approves new Statement on Investment

At its meeting in March the College Governing Body approved a new Statement on Investment.

The Bursar, Jenny Raine, said, “We take our responsibility to reduce carbon emissions very seriously and this change to our investment policy recognises that. Although holdings in fossil fuel companies have never been a significant part of our portfolio, we are committed to the complete elimination of such investments..”

The College has already taken the first steps by divesting from all investments with conventional energy-focused public equity managers as of December 2020. The next step is to completely eliminate exposure to all direct and indirect investments in fossil fuels and to allocate significant capital to funds investing in renewable energy assets by 2025.

Our investment policy is just one way in which we can make a positive contribution to environmental issues.  The College is very proud to have achieved a platinum award in the Green Impact award scheme, run by the University of Cambridge Environment and Energy Department, for four consecutive years.  We continue to strive for further sustainability improvements across all aspects of College life.”
