Alumna Ruth Chapman gets a taste of life in comms - and likes it!

We're very proud of recent alumna Ruth Chapman, who has just completed a 10-week internship with the advancement communications team at CUDAR (Cambridge University Development & Alumni Relations). Ruth recently graduated with a degree in Linguistics. Her undergraduate dissertation, A Commitment-Based Investigation into the Range of Lying, was awarded a First Class grade.

During her time at CUDAR, she contributed to a dozen projects, including the Alumni Festival, marketing materials, social media, story-writing, and the August edition of In The Know, a newsletter circulated to the CUDAR team. You can see some of her work in this bespoke microsite she created.

Ruth said, "This internship has been a wonderful experience, I have expanded my knowledge and skills, built connections with a wonderful team and developed my interests. As an intern, I worked with several teams in some capacity, either providing support for their projects or collaborating on my own. My work spread across numerous projects across the field of communications, and I am so proud of the work I produced. It was a wonderful learning experience, especially for a recent graduate!"

All the CUDAR interns were required to give a presentation on their work, which was attended by members of the Corpus Development team. Director of Development & Alumni Relations, Rachel Lawson, said, "It was wonderful to see the range of work that Ruth has covered over the past 10 weeks, and how it has helped her grow in confidence, enrich her skills, and fine tune her career plans."

Ruth was an active member of the community during her time here, serving as an admissions assistant, student caller on the telephone campaign, volunteering in the Archives, and serving on the JCR and May Ball Committee. An accomplished knitter and crocheter, she also ran the popular 'Stitch 'n Bitch' club, which met weekly to craft together and support each other. The vest she is wearing in the photo above was knitted by her to match her presentation!

Ruth is now leaving Corpus to the Other Place to work at the prestigious Bodleian Library. We wish her every success in the future.
