Estates Masterplan: Porters' Lodge and Café
Our commitments to academic excellence, access and wellbeing require buildings and spaces that serve fully the evolving needs of our students and wider community.
Old House
As a community, we are proud that Corpus boasts the oldest enclosed court of any Oxbridge college, and New Court is among the finest examples of college architecture in the Neo-Gothic style. The more recent renovation of Kwee Court (formerly Library Court) has further enhanced the site for the benefit of students, Fellows, Old Members, staff and visitors.
There remain, however, limitations in how some spaces are being used. The College’s strategic estates masterplan identifies several possible changes that would improve accessibility and provide new facilities in support of the College community,
We are consulting with local planning authorities on a range of improvements to the access and use of space between the main College entrance and Stable Yard. The changes, if approved, would allow us to reconfigure and improve the Porters’ Lodge, to increase security and provide a more appropriate welcome and waiting area for visitors.
We also hope to use the space adjacent to Stable Yard to create a café that would provide a flexible social area open to students, Fellows, Old Members, staff and visitors. The Stable Yard area would be aesthetically improved to make it into a court rather than a yard. Relandscaping groundworks would permit safe disabled access. Maintenance offices and the bin store would be relocated to complement the renovation, making space available and attractive for outdoor café furniture in the summer.
