Leckhampton: reimagining the site for future generations

Leckhampton’s future forms part of the College’s strategic estates masterplan. We want to refresh the grounds and introduce new work and social spaces. This would provide an environment that feels both more spacious and more unified, with generous green spaces that enhance the sense of community and wellbeing.

Work and social spaces
For the benefit of students, and of value to external users, we plan to build a new, multi-purpose ‘garden room’, attached to the George Thomson Building. Facing out onto the campus garden (see below), this flexible space would provide another valuable improvement to Leckhampton as a place of living, learning and socialising.

A campus garden
Relocating functional but unattractive facilities would allow for a new ‘campus garden’ at the heart of the site. This open, appealing space, available to all College members, would benefit from new landscaping and paths linking residential and social buildings.

Sports facilities
Sport remains key to many students’ wellbeing and their rounded College experience. However, facilities at Leckhampton do not meet modern needs. We wish to renovate the pavilion to accommodate the gym, changing rooms and new squash court facilities.

The MCR
Postgraduate student numbers having increased over the years, it has been necessary to enlarge the MCR, located within Leckhampton House. An early gift enabled work to be completed in June 2023. You can find images of the new MCR on the College’s Flickr pages.

Environmental improvements
Increasing the energy efficiency of historic, listed buildings presents significant challenges. We do, however, hope to make thermal improvements, and install heat pumps, within the George Thomson and L S Kho buildings.

Your role in Leckhampton’s future

Your support would help us realise these ambitious plans. The impact would be felt by generations of students. The anticipated cost of these enhancements is £9 million. This investment can be achieved only with the support of the College’s wider community.
