Funds

Alumni Fund

The Alumni Fund helps support the cost of the most vital aspects of Corpus: access and outreach, the supervision system, the generous bursary scheme, the inspirational learning environment and pioneering research. Read below to find out more about how the Alumni Fund supports each of these areas. Please consider supporting the Alumni Fund by giving an amount you can afford. Every donation toward the Fund counts and makes a real difference to Corpus students.

“Being on a scholarship to Corpus Christi, I feel real gratitude on a personal level for the generosity of those who fund scholarships and bursaries to the College. It is only through the support of funds like the Alumni Fund that many students like myself are able to have the life-changing experience of studying at Cambridge.”  – Maria English

Nicholas Bacon Fund

The Nicholas Bacon Law Society was founded in 1972, with the primary purpose of providing a means of contact between those currently studying, researching and teaching law at the College and those who have been at the College (whatever their subject) and are in practice or have been in practice as lawyers or are legal academics.  The Society also welcomes those who studied law at the College, but have subsequently pursued careers in other areas.

The Society holds a dinner each year at Corpus, usually in early March, which is attended by a wide range of ex-Corpus lawyers working here and abroad, as well as those currently studying, researching and teaching law at the College.  The Society also organises other events, such as drinks receptions in London, annual mooting competitions for first year and second year undergraduates, court visits, and talks, as well as career advice and assistance to undergraduates.

The fund was established on the initiative of members of the Nicholas Bacon Law Society in 2006.  The primary objective is to produce an endowed fund, the income from which will provide financial assistance for the study and teaching of Law at Corpus.

The Corpus Christi Nicholas Bacon Fund is registered with the Charity Commission, number 1115923.  To make a donation to the Nicholas Bacon Society, please contact the Development Office.

The Lewis Society of Medicine

The Lewis Society consists of past and current members of the College associated with medical, veterinary or biomedical science. Their mission is to support and develop medical teaching and research at Corpus, involving students, Old Members, supervisors, Fellows and staff associated with medical life at the College. In addition, they regularly hold a number of public events.

The Society organises a range of academic, social and cultural events throughout the year aimed at promoting awareness and discussion on current topics related to the science and practice of medicine.   Their activities include two seminar series on a termly basis, an annual lecture, and the following regular social occasions:

  • The Lewis Society Annual Dinner:  The Annual Dinner of the Society reunites current students and Old Members of the College associated with clinical and veterinary medicine. It is typically held over a weekend in Lent term.
  • The Annual Garden Party: The Society’s Annual Garden Party is traditionally held at Leckhampton Gardens after the Easter Term exams. Invitations are extended to everyone associated with the Society, together with their families, for what is an enjoyable and relaxed afternoon.
  • Informal Events: The Society organises a number of informal gatherings and outings over the course of the year, aiming to promote interaction and reinforce ties between students of different years. These include fresher welcome events, a Michaelmas dinner, an Easter term exam advice gathering, and a post-exam outing.

The Society is named after Dr Peter Lewis (1924-2007), Director of Medical Studies at Corpus from 1960 to 1984 and Life Fellow.  Donations to the Lewis Society of Medicine will support the promotion of medical education and research at undergraduate, postgraduate and post-doctoral levels at Corpus.
