Following the creation of the Sustainability Committee (which includes JCR and MCR Green Officers) we are going to pilot separating waste in student rooms. During Easter Term residents in Kho Building, 21 Cranmer Road, and Newnham House will have separate waste bins for dry recycling, general waste and food waste. Please separate your waste appropriately, as contaminated waste cannot be recycled.
Each room will have a blue bin, a black bin, and the gyp room will have a brown food waste caddy. Put the bins outside your door to be collected on the following days:
- Blue (recycling) bins can be put out on Monday, Wednesday or Friday.
- Black (general) bins can be put out on Tuesday or Thursday.
Food waste should be disposed of in the brown caddies in the gyp room.
These will be collected Monday-Friday.
Please take any recycling or waste that does not fit into your bin to your nearest large bin store – including pizza boxes!
We’ll be collecting feedback on your experience in a survey at the end of term, but if you have feedback about what’s working well and not so well during the trial, we’d love to hear it. You can submit it anonymously, or via email. You can also chat with your Bedder or your JCR or MCR Green Officers.
Housekeeping will tell if they’ve been unable able to collect your waste because it has not been separated correctly.
We hope over the next Term we get used to this new way of disposing of waste and play our part in improving the sustainability of the College.
