College Choir
The Chapel Choir at Corpus Christi College is a friendly and welcoming community comprising 20-25 singers. We welcome experienced singers and also those with less choral experience but who are keen to develop their vocal skills and be part of a fulfilling and sociable activity - a relaxed and wholesome pursuit to complement the demands of academic work.
The Choir sings two services each week under the direction of the Director of Music, Nick Danks. The choir is formed of Choral Scholars who apply through the Intercollegiate Choral Award Scheme, and volunteer singers from both Corpus and other Colleges either through the Intercollegiate Choral Award Scheme or through direct application at any time during the year. Singers from any College or Cambridge University-affiliated institution are welcome to apply.
Throughout the year the Choir undertakes a varied schedule of services, concerts and tours. The Director of Music conducts most services and rehearsals, and there is a focus at Corpus on the vocal technique and individual development of each singer. The Choir will appeal to those who wish to sing regularly with varied repertoire but cannot accommodate the larger commitment of some other College Choirs.
During Full Term the Choir sings for Choral Evensong on Wednesday and Sunday nights. There is also a weekly Friday late-afternoon rehearsal to learn notes around the piano. In return for their commitment to music in the chapel, all choir members have singing lessons provided each term, paid for by the College, and also get a free formal dinner after Evensong on a Sunday. There is also a chance to volunteer for the small ad-hoc group which lead the singing of Compline once a fortnight.
Auditions for choir places take place all year round, and new applicants are welcome to apply at any time to join. It’s a great place to meet new people from within the college and the wider University, and to enjoy some of the fine and fun choral repertoire each week. Please contact the Director of Music, Nick Danks, for more information or to arrange an audition.
