Colin Blakemore is Waynflete Professor of Physiology at the University of Oxford and Director of the Oxford Centre for Cognitive Neuroscience. His research has been concerned with many aspects of vision and the early development of the brain. He is also Chairman of the British Association for the Advancement of Science and President of the Physiological Society. He has made frequent radio and television broadcasts (including the 1976 BBC Reith Lectures) and is the author of many books for the general reader. He is currently Chief Executive of the European Dana Alliance for the Brain, an alliance of European neuroscientists committed to raising public awareness of the importance of brain research. Colin Blakemore is a Fellow of the Royal Society and an Honorary Fellow of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, where he read medical sciences (1962-65).
