Funding Priorities

Corpus would not exist as it does today without the generosity of its benefactors and for that we are incredibly grateful.  All gifts, both large and small, make a great difference to the College and its students.

The College aims to provide a first-class education experience and to ensure that this education is available to all who meet the entry requirements, regardless of their financial circumstances.

The recent changes in government funding for higher education mean that the value of university education is more important than ever to potential students and the cost a bigger concern than ever before.

The collegiate system of education provided by Cambridge is not cheap but it is effective and it is important that it is maintained.   Features such as the supervision system, pioneering research and an inspirational learning environment are key to a Cambridge education but expensive to maintain.  The proposed increase in tuition fees to £9,000 per annum for each undergraduate from 2012, combined with the decrease in government funding, mean that the College will need to subsidise the cost of each undergraduate’s education by approximately £7,000 per annum.  This subsidy will have to be made up from income generated by the College’s historic endowment and donations from our Old Members.

In order to continue to make sure that the best students, from all backgrounds, will be able to study at Corpus, a generous bursary scheme and substantive access and outreach programmes will need to be funded.

Now, more than ever, the support of our Old Members is vital if Corpus is to achieve its aims.   You can help by making a gift to our Alumni Fund or one of our other, more specific, funds.
