Spouses, Partners & Significant Others

While the MCR in Leckhampton is run mainly for the students and by the students, it is recognised that many MCR members have a spouse, partner or significant other (I'll use the term partner from now on!) that are more than welcome to join in and contribute to the vibrant social life of Leckers. In recognition of this the partners have formed a very easy going organisation called SPoCC (Spouses and Partners of Corpus Christi) and the president gets to go to the MCR committee meetings in an advisory capacity.

Any partner is encouraged to join any social activity that the MCR runs. You are welcome to play any of the Sports Teams or Societies; you may not be able to complete in some of the university events but there are ways around that! Many university wide clubs and societies welcome partners, but you may have to pay a bit extra as you are not a paid-up member of Cambridge University.

In general you will be classified by the college as a guest. To come to meals you need to get your partner to sign you up as a guest as most sit down meals are charged to college bills. In the unlikely event that something is over-subscribed then you may lose your place but the chance of this happening is pretty rare.

The MCR bar takes cash, or a magic plastic card that charges everything to their college bill it's a good idea to take plenty of change.

Here are a few top tips to surviving Leckhampton as a partner:

  1. Sign up to the corpus-pgs mailling list so you know about our events;
  2. Email the MCR Computer Officers and ask to be added as an MCR website user;
  3. Come to as many fresher events as possible and introduce yourself;
  4. If you let the graduate secretary know that you are a couple, you and your partner will get invited to many of the college run events;
  5. Ask questions - a Cambridge College can seem very odd at times - and many of the existing partners have many fantastic tips on what to do!
  6. If you'd like to get access to the gym, please sign up for one of the gym inductions (usually held at the beginning of term)

Also, we're working on getting library cards for partners in order to make sure they have a place to work in case they need one.
