International freshers’ week timetable 2011
This is the timetable of all the events happening prior to Freshers’ Week to help international students settle into life at Corpus, the University of Cambridge and in the UK. Come to as many or as few of the events as you like… but most of all, have fun! You’re only a fresher once! Keep an eye on the blackboard outside the Post Room for any last minute changes.
If you’re arriving before Freshers’ Week because you’re studying Mathematics or Classics (Intensive Greek), or are competing for an organ, instrumental or choral award, feel free to come along to the International Freshers’ Week events… you don’t have to sit in your room and wait for Freshers’ Week to kick off before you begin socialising!
Wednesday 28th September
- 10am–5.30pm: JCR Welcome Desk in the Porters’ Lodge. Come along to pick up information and collect your room keys. The desk will be there every day until Sunday the 2nd.
- 6pm: Dinner in Hall. A good chance to meet and chat to fellow students.
- 9pm: Quiet Night in the Bathhouse Pub. Meet at the Plodge at 9pm.
Thursday 29th September
- 10am–5.30pm: JCR Welcome Desk in the Porters’ Lodge.
- 7pm: Dinner at Nando’s. A Portuguese style, chicken–serving restaurant. Please meet in the Porters’ Lodge at 6:50pm and bring £10 for food. Vegetarian options are available.
- 9pm: Film Night in the JCR. Probably something with a British flavour. The JCR is in Old Court.
Friday 30st September

- 7pm: International Freshers’ Supper. Buffet dinner with the Master in the Master’s Lodge in New Court. Please wear a jacket and tie or equivalent.
Saturday 1st October
- 1.30pm: Tours of College and Cambridge. Meet at the Plodge. You will be taken to Cambridge Police Station during this so that you can register with them if your visa requires it.
- 5pm: Home-cooked dinner. We will be making our own dinner, so think of some exotic dishes from your home country to make if you can. We can do this in groups, so come along to help (and eat!) even if cooking is not your strength. Meet at the Plodge to shop for ingredients.
- 9pm: Games Night. Venue to be confirmed.
Sunday 2nd October
- All Day: Matriculation Day. Details are found on the main Freshers’ Week timetable here.
- 10am–12pm: Pick up your Freshers’ Packs from the JCR Welcome Desk in the Porter’s Lodge.
