INSTRUCTIONS FOR INIDIVIDUAL NETWORK CONNECTIONS

Every student staying in College-provided accommodation may apply for a connection to the College’s network. A connection to our network will enable you to access the Internet as well as a range of university resources, directly from your room.

Before applying for a connection, applicants should ensure that they have the following:

  1. A network-ready computer
  2. An Ethernet cable (please indicate on the form if you require one)
  3. Up-to-date anti-virus software (please see us if you require this and we will provide you with a CD)
  4. The latest updates and patches for Windows

Students wishing to apply for a connection should follow the steps as outlined below:

1. Ensure your computer is configured to automatically obtain an IP address

For Windows 2000/XP users:

• Select Start > Settings > Network Connections
• Double-click the Local Area Connection icon and then click the Properties button
• Click to highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then click the Properties button
• Select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically
• Click OK and then once more

For Windows 9x/ME users:

• Select Start > Settings > Control Panel
• Double-click the Network icon
• In the Network Configuration window, click TCP/IP, and then click the Properties button
• Select Obtain an IP address automatically
• Click the DNS Configuration tab
• Click the first IP address in the DNS Server Search Order field, and click Remove. Repeat this step until all of the IP addresses in this field have been removed
• Click OK

2. Physically connect your computer to the network socket in the wall using an Ethernet cable

3. Open Internet Explorer (or any other browser) and wait until you are automatically taken to the Corpus Registration Page

Enter either your PWF or Raven username and password and follow the instructions that follow.
