Theft from College chapel
Old Members may well have seen the press stories about the theft from the chapel of some of the communion silver.  Thieves went into the chapel whilst College was open to visitors and forced the lock on a chest in which items for communion were kept.  As the media have reported, we have recovered some of the silver which was sold to a local shop-keeper, but other items, we fear, may have disappeared for good. However, Old Members may be reassured that none of the lost items belonged to the College's collection of early silver (including the pieces given or bequeathed by Matthew Parker) - this is all safe. Nonetheless, it was a distressing occurence and we are now reviewing College security arrangements in general, including with regard to the
Chapel.
